We have organised a range of excursions covering all periods of specialism and interest. These include trips to prehistoric landscapes, castles, churches, museums, World Heritage Sites of mining industries as well as historic buildings, WW II cemeteries and battlefields and historic towns.
Due to more large events organised simultaneously in Maastricht the availability of hotel rooms is low during the Conference period. Therefore, the EAA2017 advises you not to wait with booking your accommodation.
We would like to thank all our current partners, sponsors and exhibitors. Please have a look at the sponsor page and click on the logo for more information.
The European Association of Archaeologists instituted the EAA Student Award in 2002. The prize is awarded annually for the best paper presented at the EAA conference by a student or archaeologist, working on a dissertation.
The EAA board, the municipality of Maastricht, the province of Limburg and the Kingdom of the Netherlands are delighted to welcome you at the 23rd Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists (August 30th – September 2nd, 2017) in the historic town of Maastricht. This is where twenty five years ago, on February 7th, 1992, the famous Maastricht Treaty was signed. The long term effects on archaeology of both the Maastricht Treaty and the Valetta Convention, also agreed upon in 1992, will be discussed at the meeting. In the light of the current political and social situation in Europe, and its effects on science, it was obvious to choose Maastricht’s most important landmark, the Saint Servatius Bridge (Aw Brök, or Old Bridge, in local dialect), as the meeting’s logo.
The conference venue, MECC, offers perfect facilities for professional contacts and meeting friends. To stimulate discussion and dialogue, the Maastricht meeting will allow for experimentation in the session formats. Join us at this year’s meeting in the heart of Europe!
