EAA 2017 Maastricht 30 August - 3 September 2017

Archaeology&ME

During the EAA2017 in Maastricht a small and mobile exhibition was presented in two trucks. It was the presentation of the outcome of an Europe wide project in which people from fifteen countries contributed. During the project people, especially young citizens, where asked to express visually how archaeology inspired them. The result of this request was a wide range of ‘art’ works how archaeology is seen by the public. A theme which is also looked at during the conference in collaboration with the NEARCH project. The results of the Archaeology&ME project have been digitized and can be downloaded as pdf here.

August 13th - Deadline for Student Award application

The European Association of Archaeologists instituted the EAA Student Award in 2002. The prize is awarded annually for the best paper presented at the EAA conference by a student or archaeologist, working on a dissertation.

Hallo! Maastricht welcomes you.

The EAA board, the municipality of Maastricht, the province of Limburg and the Kingdom of the Netherlands are delighted to welcome you at the 23rd Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists (August 30th – September 2nd, 2017) in the historic town of Maastricht. This is where twenty five years ago, on February 7th, 1992, the famous Maastricht Treaty was signed. The long term effects on archaeology of both the Maastricht Treaty and the Valetta Convention, also agreed upon in 1992, will be discussed at the meeting. In the light of the current political and social situation in Europe, and its effects on science, it was obvious to choose Maastricht’s most important landmark, the Saint Servatius Bridge (Aw Brök, or Old Bridge, in local dialect), as the meeting’s logo.

The conference venue, MECC, offers perfect facilities for professional contacts and meeting friends. To stimulate discussion and dialogue, the Maastricht meeting will allow for experimentation in the session formats. Join us at this year’s meeting in the heart of Europe!
