The European Association of Archaeologists instituted the EAA Student Award in 2002. The prize is awarded annually for the best paper presented at the EAA conference by a student or archaeologist, working on a dissertation. Papers are evaluated for their academic merit and innovative ideas by the Award Selection Committee.
This year at the Annual Party there will be a talent contest called EAA’s Got Talent. We are looking for bands but are also open for other performers and entertainers who can contribute to the evening.
Participation is easy. You tell us about your talent and preferably you show us your talent by uploading a soundtrack or video of your performance. When we choose you to perform at our party, all you need to do is to bring your own instruments and we’ll take care of all the technical equipment. We’ll also provide for the drums if necessary.
So, are you enthusiastic and do you want to let your EAA colleagues know how well you can play and entertain, then sign up before the 25th of June by downloading the application form!
Due to more large events organised simultaneously in Maastricht the availability of hotel rooms is low during the Conference period.
Therefore, the EAA2017 advises you not to wait with booking your accommodation.
MECC Hotel Services is the official housing partner for participants of the 23rd Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists. These Services are happy to assist you in finding and booking your preferred hotel accommodation. In close consult with our organization they have selected for you the best hotels with the best available rates. Their service is free.

The EAA board, the municipality of Maastricht, the province of Limburg and the Kingdom of the Netherlands are delighted to welcome you at the 23rd Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists (August 30th – September 2nd, 2017) in the historic town of Maastricht. This is where twenty five years ago, on February 7th, 1992, the famous Maastricht Treaty was signed. The long term effects on archaeology of both the Maastricht Treaty and the Valetta Convention, also agreed upon in 1992, will be discussed at the meeting. In the light of the current political and social situation in Europe, and its effects on science, it was obvious to choose Maastricht’s most important landmark, the Saint Servatius Bridge (Aw Brök, or Old Bridge, in local dialect), as the meeting’s logo.
The conference venue, MECC, offers perfect facilities for professional contacts and meeting friends. To stimulate discussion and dialogue, the Maastricht meeting will allow for experimentation in the session formats. Join us at this year’s meeting in the heart of Europe!
