Archaeological Highlights and Mysteries from the Maastricht Area
July 15 - October 15
Extraordinary Roman deity statuettes, beautifully decorated gold and silver Merovingian jewellery, three mysterious dodecahedrons, shoes dating from the Middle ages and a Viking sword: these are but just a few examples of the more than 100 remarkable archaeological treasures that are on display at Centre Céramique.
Several curators of the most important archaeological and historical museums in the Euregio have made this selection. Not only the most beautiful or valuable items, but also the most puzzling and mysterious objects. Objects of which, until today, nobody knows where they came from or what their purpose was.
This exhibition containing highlights and mysteries from the Euregional archaeological past takes place alongside the major international archeology congress organized in Maastricht by the European Association of Archaeologists (EAA) in early September.
The exhibition will be opened until the National Archaeology Days on October 13, 14 and 15.
The participating museums are: Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden, Gallo-Roman Museum in Tongeren, Centre Charlemagne in Aachen, Museum Zitadelle in Jülich, Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Bonn, Le Grand Curtius in Liège, Museum Het Valkhof in Nijmegen, Limburgs Museum in Venlo, DoMIJNen Museum in Sittard and the Thermen Museum in Heerlen.
